The town of Cannobio is only a few kilometres from the Swiss border, and is located on the shores of the spectacular western end of Lago Maggiore. Cannobio has made a particular point of retaining intact most of its natural, historical and architectural heritage which include Roman remains, Medieval art, and 18th Century architecture.
The Lido at Cannobio boasts one of the few wide, sandy beaches along the lake, and the waters offshore are renowned for sailing, windsurfing and other water-sports. Cannobio has three harbours for the launching and mooring of boats, with boat-rental also available. Other sporting facilities, such as tennis courts, a soccer-field and an athletic track are also on hand. For the walker there are well-marked paths which lead up into a hinterland of scenic mountain hikes and remote villages with stunning views and unforgettable vistas.
